  30. I suspect that scala is a bit too sensitive to the timing variations
  31. coming from the vcr, which with a skew tension error thrown in for
  32. good measure, could well exceed 40 microseconds per vertical
  33. interval. That is more than 1/2 a horizontal line!

  35. The only *real* cure is prolly going to be in the form of a
  36. stable time base at the input, established by running the vcr thru a
  37. time base corrector (TBC) of a full fledged synchronizer.  I have
  38. seen other "workarounds", but even if it "worked", the output pix
  39. quality wasn't anything I'd allow to be broadcast if I thought an FCC
  40. monitor van was within 200 miles!

  42. Better yet, trade the "consumer" vcr in on one of the JVC 22 (622
  43. play only, 822 record/play) series machines with a builtin tbc.
  44. We've used them as our on-air playbacks for the last year.  Great
  45. Super VHS pix, <$3k US I think.
